Located in eastern Utah, Moab is home to the massive red rock formations in Arches National Park. Southwest of there, you'll find Canyonlands National Park where you'll find canyons, buttes and spires carved by the Colorado and Green rivers. Moab offers incredible hikes that give access to breathtaking views. We've rounded up some of our favorites to check out.
Mesa Arch Trail
Located in the Island in the Sky District in Canyonlands National Park, the Mesa Arch Trail is short and relatively easy. You'll find the iconic 27-foot stone arch that frames breathtaking views of Buck Canyon and the La Sal Mountains. If you're hoping to score sunrise views, you'll need to plan to arrive well before dawn to beat the crowds as this is a popular spot for photography. There is a 500-foot drop off near the arch so it's important to watch your footing and keep a close eye on children if they're joining for the hike.
Corona Arch Trail
The Corona Arch Trail is managed by the Bureau of Land Management and is a moderate 3-mile round trip hike. The trail is well marked and along the way to the Corona Arch, you'll pass Bowtie Arch and Goldbar Arch. You'll also find a few spots along the trail with exposure to heights but there are cables and ladders available to assist. The trail doesn't offer much shade, so it's important to bring plenty of water and sun protection.
Hikes in Arches National Park
Home to the tallest arch found in this national park, the Double Arch Trail is a little over half a mile. It takes roughly 15-20 minutes to complete and is considered relatively easy. The view of Double Arch is in The Window Section of the park and is one of the most popular spots of the entire park. Get ready to take in gorgeous scenic views and check out other incredible features along the way.
Delicate Arch Trail is a more moderate to strenuous type hike that's 3 miles long and takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to complete. The path is steep with exposed slickrock and offers no shade – so make sure to bring plenty of water along. It's important to get an early start as the parking lot to this trail fills up quickly. People from all over the world want to sneak a peek at the more than 2,000 arches with Delicate Arch being one of the most iconic staples.
Dead Horse Point State Park
The West Rim Trail System is one of the longest, rigorous hikes found in Dead Horse Point State Park. The full loop system ranges about 5.5 to 6.5 miles, depending on how many overlooks you visit. It's important to wear proper hiking shoes to be able to handle the terrain and slickrock that's found. Like the previously mentioned trails, it's important to bring plenty of water as this hike offers no shade. Some favorite overlooks include Big Horn and Shafer Canyon – which offer stunning views.
