Discover one of the best Ontario, Canada biking trails on the Lake Ontario Waterfront Trail, a 2,100-kilometer path that is, in fact, part of the larger Great Lakes Waterfront Trail. Because this path passes through areas like beach towns, wetlands, forests, and parks, there are plenty of stops along the way.
A utopia for hikers and bikers, the Lake Ontario Waterfront Trail is filled with wildlife and gorgeous scenery. Best of all, it runs right past Sun Retreats Hay Bay, giving our guests easy access to hop on and ride. If you travel east about an hour (half an hour by car), you'll reach the nearby town of Bath, which features a number of interesting attractions.
The town of Bath is small but charming. It's well worth the trip (by car or bike) to tour the Fairfield-Gutzeit House, which was built in 1796. Because of the ongoing preservation efforts, including home's renovation in recent year, visitors can get a glimpse of how a well-to-do family lived in the early nineteenth century.
Located on the grounds, the Lafarge War of 1812 Discovery Centre not only gives an account of early Bath, but also includes local events of historical significance. In particular, the story of the American attack on Bath during the War of 1812 is highlighted in the museum.
