Virtual Activities for Thanksgiving Day

Virtual Activities for Thanksgiving Day
By now, you probably have your menu planned out and are getting ready for the annual Thanksgiving feast. But for many of us, the holiday looks a little different this year. Celebrating over distance is a change and it means we must be creative with celebrations. To give you a hand, we've come up with five ideas for virtual activities for Thanksgiving Day. Try them out for a fun, distanced turkey day!

Watch the Virtual Macy's Parade

This year, the famous Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is going virtual. Rather than hosting a crowded, in-person event, Macy's is pre-filming the parade, using vehicles on the ground to guide the iconic balloons. The performances, floats, and balloons will still be there, but viewers will tune in to the parade on NBC, rather than gathering on the sidewalks.

The virtual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will air on NBC on Thursday, November 26 from 9 a.m.-noon in all time zones.

Family Watching Football on Thanksgiving

Tune Into a Football Game from Home

One of the best virtual activities for Thanksgiving Day is to tune into a football game. There's no need to fight crowds and traffic to attend a game in the stadium. Instead, enjoy a delicious meal and watch the game from the comfort of your couch.

Here's where you can find the 2020 Thanksgiving Day football schedule.

Video Chat with Loved Ones

What better way to spend Thanksgiving Day than with those you love? However, whether due to distance, sickness, or other factors, it's not always possible to be together physically. Fortunately, technology has made it much easier to stay in touch virtually. Why not celebrate this Thanksgiving with a video call to loved ones? Maybe call those aunts, uncles, and cousins you don't often see!

Check out our post on staying connected virtually during the holidays for more ideas.

Person Playing Chess Over Video Call

Play a Virtual Game with Family or Friends

Sometimes, a low-key holiday is all you're looking for. When that's the case, one of the best virtual activities for Thanksgiving is playing a game. Try getting family or friends together for a virtual game. While you can play traditional games like chess virtually, instead try something designed for socializing, like Among Us. The popular video game is easy to understand and is very similar to the childhood game of Mafia. It's great fun!

Run a Solo 5K and Share Your Time

Do you love to get active on Thanksgiving Day? While the traditional 5K isn't taking place this year, you can host a virtual 5K competition with friends or family. In this set-up, you run the 5K by yourself and track your time. Then, share your time with family and friends who are doing the same. You can compare times and see who ran the fastest.

The holiday may be different, but it doesn't have to be any less fun. Hopefully, these virtual activities for Thanksgiving Day will spark your creativity and help you make the most of the day. Before you go, don't forget to share this post with friends and family you'd like to connect with this Thanksgiving!
