They've served our nation faithfully and sacrificed to preserve, protect, and uphold the freedoms we enjoy every day. And on Veterans Day, we get to pay it forward and thank them for being our heroes.
Sun values our military veterans and we show our thanks for their service to us in different ways.
As a provider of housing and outdoor hospitality, we're proud to welcome veterans into our communities and resorts, as well as our team! In fact, many of our year-round resorts host special programs on Veterans Day. Activities can include favorites like golf cart parades, community dinners, and guest speakers from organizations like the Veterans Administration.
Veterans can also save when they want to get away with Sun Outdoors by using the Sun Military Discount, our military camping and vacation rental special.
To honor our valued team members who have served, Sun makes charitable donations to organizations like Homes for Our Troops on their behalf. In addition to these contributions, they also receive a small token of appreciation on Veterans Day.
As most of us know, our nation officially celebrates Veterans Day every November 11. But the historical significance of this date lies in the armistice that was signed on this date in 1918 during World War I, or "the war to end all wars." This armistice led a formal ceasefire agreement that end fighting in war, but not the war itself.
This famous ceasefire, signed on the eleventh day of the eleventh month, is the reason we hold Veterans Day on November 11 each year.
We hope you have a safe a happy Veterans Day!
