The Sisters on the Fly paid a recent visit to our very own Sun Outdoors Canyonlands Gateway in Moab, Utah, toward the end of March. The resorts accommodating staff made a lasting impression on the Sisters during their last trip, which just so happened to be during the 2018 Moab Jeep Safari. They loved it so much they decided to book there again…but much earlier to avoid the crowds of Jeep enthusiasts.
Known for their girl's only camping experiences, this trip was more casual, extending invitations to their "misters" and children. Renan Yanish, Sister #5210, was the "host sister" who coordinated the trip to Moab. She explained that even though they traditionally plan most events around just the "sisters," that sometimes it's nice to include your family too.
During the day, the Sisters enjoyed off-site activities such as horseback riding, hiking, and photography lessons. Then at 6 p.m. sharp, they would come together at the BBQ and fire pit area at Archview to unwind. It was a great atmosphere around a warm, crackling bonfire complete with snacks, drinks, and lots of laughs. The ladies were regaling tales of their daily adventures to the rest of the group.
The Sisters on the Fly are a very warm and welcoming assembly, radiating the comradery it was founded on. The new sisters were officially welcomed with a toast to their motto: "We have more fun than anyone!"
Each Sister proudly sported her number, an indicator of how long she's been a member, with patches, buttons, and badges. And despite all of the wonderful activities the Sisters enjoyed during their time in Moab, the campfires were a favorite for most.
"The Sister on the Fly do a really good job with including everybody, and getting to know people. I think the campfires do that best," said Robin Rogers, Sister #9291. Robin attended the Sisters on the Fly Moab outing last year as well, so it was her second visit to Archview, and is a delightful lady who loves her fancy hats and her little Chihuahua, Daisy, who is always by her side.
Since the group's inception in 1999, which began with the two founding members, their numbers have skyrocketed to over 13,000. This huge influx of members, gaining over 4,000 Sisters in the past year alone, was largely due to the exposure that came from being featured on the Travel Channel.
One article showcased the Sisters unique proclivity for vintage trailers. Many of them do the restorations themselves; then decorate them according to their favorite theme. Several of the Sisters at the Moab retreat do own a vintage trailer, but opted for their modern rigs during this trip.
This didn't stop them, however, from decking them out in true Sister on the Fly fashion! Some of them were gracious enough to give us a tour, proudly showcasing fishing and western themes, or cute camping knickknacks and décor items.
We hope to catch up with the Sisters on the Fly again soon, and have invited them to check out River Run RV Resort in Granby, Colorado. This resorts proximity to nature and fly fishing would be a perfect fit for the Sisters to enjoy another fun excursion with Sun.
But wherever we meet up with them again, it's sure to be a great time. This is a wonderful group of women who welcome newcomers with open arms and have proven time and again that they really do "have more fun than anyone."
