Sightseeing in Arlington, TX

Planetarium

The fascinating wonders of our universe are showcased in the Planetarium at the University of Texas in Arlington. As one of the three largest planetariums in Texas, this institution boasts a 60-foot projection surface and digital projection technology that'll make it hard to believe you're not staring at the night sky. The Planetarium is a great attraction for children or teenagers, as well as any adult excited by science. Shows are both educational and entertaining, with public presentations often taking place on the weekends. Be sure to check the schedule before visiting!

River Legacy Park

Another excellent destination for a family outing is the River Legacy Parks, a beautiful 1,300-acre wilderness area that offers exposure to nature amid this bustling Texas metropolis. Visitors can walk or bike along tranquil forest trails, paddle a canoe along the wide and flowing Trinity River, and feel the gentle breeze during a picnic lunch in one of the park's many pavilions.

There's plenty of nature to be seen all around the park and if you walk quietly, or sit still for a while, a diverse variety of small animals can be seen going about their business. You should also keep an eye an eye out for Devil's Cigar, rare type of fungus that makes an audible hissing noise as it releases spores. This unique vegetation grows around decaying cedar elm stumps and can be spotted in the fall and early winter!
