Holiday Lights is an annual light show at Shore Acres State Park in Coos Bay. Over 325,000 LED lights twinkle throughout the coastal preserve, lending a magical air. In addition, dozens of light sculptures are set up throughout the park, including pelicans, sea lions, and more. You'll also find 30 holiday trees, a mixture of large and small landscape lights, and the bedecked Garden House.
But how did Holiday Lights at Shore Acres start?
In 1987, the Friends of Shore Acres wanted to get the park in the festive spirit. They strung up about 6,000 miniature lights and set up one holiday tree. The decorations were a hit with the community and the event has expanded every year since. From 9,000 visitors in the first year, Holiday Lights now draws 50,000 to 70,000 visitors annually.
In 2019, the event takes place from November 28 to December 31. Festivities commence at 4 p.m. each evening, and things wrap up at 9:30 p.m. While Holiday Lights is free, there is a $5 parking fee. And if you can, visit on a weekday to avoid the crowds.
The great news about Holiday Lights is that Sun Outdoors Coos Bay is just five minutes up the road from Shore Acres State Park! Our Oregon Coast resort offers amazing tent and RV camping overlooking the Pacific Ocean. For those craving extra comfort, seaside shanties and cottages provide convenience and ease.
Oceanside RV Resort also features an expansive beach that happens to be pet-friendly! Fishing and crabbing can be done right at the campground, and there's even a crab cooking and cleaning station. If it gets chilly at night, just gather with your neighbors around the roaring community campfire.
