Palm Creek Golf & RV Resort, together with the USA Pickleball Association (USAPA), co-hosted the USAPA Nationals VII November 12-16, 2015 at the resorts' breathtaking venue located in Casa Grande, Arizona! This annual event attracted 807 registrants this year from 38 states and three Canadian provinces – an impressive turnout for this already popular tournament.
The increasing popularity of this sport in tandem with the resorts Pickleball Club membership peaking to nearly 800 members, prompted an expansion project at Palm Creek that began June 1, 2015 to increase the number of courts from 24 to 32. The project was completed the first week of November – just in time to make this resort the premier venue for all open and senior open matches for this event! About 40 Palm Creek residents participated with five capturing medals in this highly competitive tournament in the following categories:
Women's Doubles 60+
Gold: Carol Lindow
Mixed Doubles 60+
Silver: Marsha Freso and Al Hager
Men's Doubles 60+
Bronze: Byron Freso
Women's Doubles 75+ (75-79)
Bronze: Joyce Staffen
EnetLive provided livestreaming for gold and silver open and senior open medal matches, which later became available on demand through the Pickleball Channel, drawing over a half million viewers from all 50 states and 76 countries! In fact, the Pickleball Channel was so impressed with Palm Creek's facilities they've asked permission to return and prepare a feature segment on the resort in 2016!
Palm Creek's Pickleball Ball Club stepped up in grand fashion, volunteering 1,500 hours of support on everything from referees, medical aid, administration, and so much more. Feedback from the USAPA and players alike was extremely positive with particular emphasis regarding the fabulous courts and layout of facilities – all expressed a keen interest in returning to Palm Creek in the future.
Many of the players stayed in Palm Creek's new vacation rentals, which were completed at the beginning of November, enabling them to enjoy many of the amenities offered by the park. Additional activities were also scheduled during the week and were available to players and spectators alike with several resort clubs offering tours, lessons, craft making, and an on-site hot air balloon vendor that offered special pricing for rides during the tournament.
The USAPA expects to make an announcement in late January regarding next year's venue and dates. Stay tuned for the latest updates!
