Your Guide to Working Remotely

To aide in your success of working from home, we've put together a list of tips to help as we embark on this journey. Together, we can all do our part and embrace this experience as a great opportunity to get in the know about working remotely.

How to Work from Home

Have a Functional Workspace

1. Have a Functional Workspace

Creating a dedicated workspace within your home gives you a private place where you can focus and get your mind on work. Try to find a spot away from personal spaces where you can stay organized and easily slip into work mode to get your mind focused on business tasks.

Check Your Technical Equipment

2. Get Your Tech in Check

Once you have your remote work area set up, it's time to make sure everything is connected and working properly. Ensure you have the proper software installed, such as VPN and Zoom, so you can perform your job seamlessly. Another important factor to keep in mind is making sure you have adequate bandwidth to support all essential devices while more people are working from home.

Stick to an At-Home Schedule

3. Stick to a Schedule

Set your schedule and try to stick to it. This would include a morning routine that includes getting ready for the day, making your morning coffee, and eating breakfast. Be ready to work by your start time, then work your regular hours, scheduling breaks throughout your day. It may sound unnecessary to some, but creating a schedule while working remotely does wonders for your mental well-being.

Stay Connected with Colleagues

4. Stay Connected with Colleagues

Many instant messaging tools now exist and are utilized for everyday businesses and offer easy communication between co-workers for both working and social relationships within our digital workspace. Popular business applications such as Skype, Slack and Teams provide easy communication between colleagues and can help with feeling remote and isolated when working from home.

Working From Home With Kids

5. The Kids Are All Right

Businesses aren't the only institutions closing their doors during these unprecedented times, many schools have also followed suite and have students also working remotely. While these conditions provide ample quality time for families, maintaining a healthy work-life balance is important too. Make a plan for education and entertainment, keeping plenty on-hand to keep the kids busy.

Use Special UV Lamps for Vitamin D

6. Bulbs with Vitamin D

Since staying indoors is the best policy right now, many of us are missing our daily dose of sunshine. Special UV lamps simulate artificial sunlight that can help those suffering from vitamin D deficiency. This could be an increasing challenge when working remotely with the rising temperatures due to the onset of spring and summer.

We hope that these tips leave you feeling confident and ready to embrace the work-from-home experience. Got any of your own tips to share? We'd love to hear about them on social media.
