What to See at the Florida State Fair

Visit the Florida State Fair in Tampa

February means it's fair season...in Tampa, that is. While some fairs are synonymous with summer, the Florida State Fair takes place in winter, when the weather is mild and the snowbirds are settled in.

For 2019, the Florida State Fair has more to see and do than ever before. Here are a few of the highlights to look forward to:

1. Creative Living Competitions

Each year, Florida's finest artisans come out to show off their skills at the Florida State Fair. Popular competitions include baking, fine arts, woodcarving, horticulture, and quilting. Find your favorite event here!

2. All-Star Stunt Dog Splash

They leap, and bound, and splash for your delight! The stunt dogs of this fan-favorite event are truly amazing. From jumping rope to competing in frisbee competitions, this is an event that's fun for all ages. Shows take place three times daily.

3. Extreme Illusions & Escapes

As the largest touring illusion and escape artist show in the U.S., Extreme Illusions & Escapes has a lot of hype. And they live up to every bit of it. Come witness daring escapes from coffins, knives, and more!

4. Batcopter

You've seen it on TV and in the movies, now ride it in person. The famous Batcopter will be at the Florida State Fair, and up to two passengers can ride it at a time. Don't miss your chance to see this piece of movie memorabilia.

5. Livestock Barns

From 4-H to professionals, you'll find all sorts of animals in the livestock barns. Be sure to check out the pygmy goats, cows, and long-haired rabbits. Plus, you can find an operational milking parlor right next door.

6. Fair Food

Ah, fair food. A sweet, fried feast awaits at the Florida State Fair. Here are a few new eats for 2019:

• Buffloaded Mac and Cheese Quesadilla at Bryan's Concessions
• Deep Fried Cookie Dough at The Happy Dough
• Cuban Pizza at The Pizza Emporium
• Red Beans and Rice Funnel Cake at The Best Around
• BBQ Pork on Pork Rinds at Carousel Foods

There's plenty more to find at the Florida State Fair, but we'll save a few surprises for your visit. The 2019 Florida State Fair runs from February 7-18 and takes place at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa.
