Five Essential Florida Seafood Festivals
The Sunshine State is known for its warm weather, coastal cities, and relaxing atmosphere. With water surrounding much of the state, Florida is also an acclaimed seafood hub, with major festivals taking place throughout the year. Peak festival season falls from January to March, giving snowbirds a great opportunity to sample the best seafood the state has to offer. Read on to find a festival near you!

Port Salerno Seafood Festival: January 27, 2018

Port Salerno is a part of Florida's Treasure Coast, which is also home to Port St. Lucie, dubbed the "Sailfish Capital of the World." The locals take seafood seriously and their passions can be showcased at the Port Salerno Seafood Festival, a diverse gathering of food vendors, artists, musicians, and more. The cuisine is prepared with love, ranging from classics like fish and chips to simpler dishes such as seared tuna and shark bites.

Parking is free and patrons can also enjoy free trolley or water taxi rides to the event. There is a small admission charge and many vendors use cash, so prepare accordingly!

Everglades Seafood Festival: February 9-11, 2018

Head into deep Florida territory at the Everglades Seafood Festival, situated just minutes away from one of the most unique national parks in the U.S. This annual festival takes place for three days over the weekend, with different bands performing country music each and every day.

While arts, crafts, and kid-friendly activities abound, the highlight of the event is the food. Regional influences play a big part in the offerings, with Cajun and Jamaican cuisines being the most prominent. Dive into traditional jambalaya with mahi-mahi, shrimp, and gator, or take a handheld approach with a Jamaican wrap featuring chicken, shrimp, and seasoned rice. There's no entry charge, so you only need to bring what you plan to spend on food and items from local vendors.
