Where to Go for Fall Fishing

Fall is approaching and anglers are getting their tackleboxes ready. All over the country, there are top-notch fall fishing spots where you can reel in the big one. Today, we're highlighting a few favorites near our outdoor destinations. Find your nearest fishing spot and get ready to snag a prize catch!

5 Fall Fishing Spots for Serious Anglers

1. Chesapeake Bay

Virginia | Maryland

An enormous waterway, the Chesapeake Bay is a treasure of the East Coast. Though always popular for fishing and crabbing, the Chesapeake is renowned as a fall fishing spot for striped bass. You're all but guaranteed a good haul when you cast your line in these plentiful waters.

While we've listed a couple nearby resorts below, one deserves a special mention. New Point RV Resort features a private marina, complete with boat slips and a ramp, on the Chesapeake Bay. If you're an avid angler, this might be your dream destination.

2. Chatfield Reservoir

Colorado

Nestled south of Denver, Chatfield Reservoir is an underrated spot for fall fishing. This freshwater lake is known for its surprising variety of fish. When you cast your line, you might reel in walleye, rainbow trout, bass, or another photo-worthy catch.

3. Lake Okeechobee

Florida

Lake Okeechobee is Florida's largest freshwater lake and a famous fishing destination. There's a staggering number of largemouth bass in the lake, as well as black crappie and catfish. Fall is a perfect time to go fishing on Lake Okeechobee, as the slightly cooler weather brings the fish closer to the surface.

4. Cape Cod

Massachusetts

For fantastic saltwater fishing, head to Cape Cod in Massachusetts. Early fall is a great time to find the fish active and about. Whether you're out on a charter or fishing from your own boat, you'll likely reel in sizable bluefish and bass.

5. Lake Michigan

Michigan | Illinois | Wisconsin

Since the state is divided into two peninsulas, Michigan is an angler's paradise. The best fishing awaits on Lake Michigan, which is famous for freshwater salmon in the fall. On these wide waters, you're bound to get a good haul.

Numerous fishing charters operate out of Michigan's coastal villages. Manistee is particularly abundant in charter captains and we recommend both Riverside Charters and Reel Teaser II Sport Fishing Charters.
