Canada is Turning 150, Let's Celebrate!
Patriotic holidays are in full swing this July. As the U.S. preps for Independence Day on July 4, Canada is celebrating its own independence on July 1, and to add to the excitement, this year is the country's 150th birthday. In honor of this, Canada 150 has created a buzz that just keeps on building.

Where It All Began

For centuries, Canada was a vast wilderness, populated by scattered groups of farmers, hunters, and fishers. When European colonization began, the country grew quickly and Canada marked itself as a self-governing nation by passing the British North America Act on July 1, 1867, a date we now honor as Canada Day. A century and a half later, Canada is gearing up for a nationwide birthday party.

Events in Ontario

What's being done to celebrate Canada 150? Quite a lot! There have been events leading up to the holiday, and now that the day is here, there's plenty happening, especially in Ontario. If you're staying at Willowood RV Resort, you're just a short drive from Windsor, where Canada 150 festivities are taking place at Wyandotte Town Centre. While you're there, you can explore the unique shops and satisfy your sweet tooth at local establishments like Klueless Cupcakes.

The charming city of Stratford is an artistic hub with an eclectic blend of opportunities for visitors. With multiple theatres around town, the city plays host to a variety of professional theatrical productions, offering a great chance to experience a live-action play. Visitors can roam through numerous parks and gardens, which are nestled just steps away from Stratford's many shops. The city is crafting a spectacular birthday present with a commemorative Canadian flag painting taking place at Lower Queens Parkland. It's a quick trip to Stratford from Silver Birches RV Resort & Campground, so stop by and experience some of Canada's most artistic offerings.

If you're enjoying the quiet coastal amenities of Prince Edward, consider stopping by Picton. Just a short distance from Lake Avenue RV Resort, the town offers local shopping and a number of parks near the water. Canada Day includes plans for a barbecue, street performances, and fireworks. The event is family-friendly too, with a children's carnival and play zone.

We can't forget one of Ontario's biggest celebrations. Toronto's birthday bash includes a four-day festival at Nathan Phillips Square, with three other events taking place around the city on Canada Day. Enjoy a taste of Toronto's diverse culture with live music, ethnic foods, and a variety of activities for all ages. Guests at Gulliver's Lake RV Resort can take a break from the lake and head to the city for a fun-filled day of art, entertainment, and shopping!

For those staying at our beautiful Sherkston Shores RV Resort, the party is all around. Just minutes away, Port Colborne will host family festivities throughout the day at H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park, with a sunset fireworks show to end the day. To the north, St. Catharines will hold a traditional Victorian-era picnic, replete with costumes and history. And don't miss out on Niagara Falls! The charming city will host a Canada Day parade in the morning, followed by free birthday cake at City Hall and an all-afternoon block party on Queen Street.

There's always fun to be found in Canada and the country is going all-out for Canada 150. Celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime event by joining in one of the many opportunities taking place throughout Ontario!
