Celebrate Earth Day with Essential Oils

Celebrate Earth Day with Essential Oils

Earth Day is April 22 and the perfect time to enjoy some natural alternatives. Some of the best natural alternatives are essential oils. These can be used for aromatherapy, cleaning, and more. To help you make the most of them, we've come up with four different ways to fill your home with natural scents. Have fun and enjoy!

How to Use Essential Oils

How to Use Essential Oils

1. Diffuse Essential Oils in Your Home

Without a doubt, diffusing is the most popular way to use essential oils. Dedicated diffusers and some humidifiers turn oils into a fine mist. This method adds a great fragrance to your home and, with certain oils like peppermint, can help you breathe more easily.

2. Apply to the Skin

First things first, you should never apply essential oils directly to your skin. You always want to use a carrier oil to dilute the mixture. Some popular choices for carrier oils include sunflower oil, sweet almond oil, and avocado oil.

To apply to the skin, mix 30 milliliters of carrier oil with 18 drops of essential oil. Then add a couple drops to spots like your wrists and the back of your neck. Just be careful to avoid touching your face and eyes. Wash your hands very thoroughly after use!

3. Add Essential Oils to a Bath

In stressful times, baths are one of the very best ways to relax. But why not kick the relaxation up a notch? Adding a few drops of essential oils to a bath will give you a full aromatherapy experience. It's like a spa, right in your home.

We recommend adding Epsom salt to your bath when using essential oils. Not only is Epsom salt great for your skin, it helps the oils to dissolve more easily. And remember not to mix bath bombs or soaps with lots of chemicals into your bath. Combining too many products could irritate your skin.

4. Create an All-Purpose Cleaner

Ready for the best-smelling cleaner of your life? It's not difficult to make an all-purpose spray cleaner with essential oils. The recipe below from Doterra creates a multi-purpose cleaner that's great for all hard surfaces. Make sure you have a spray bottle to use it with.

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup white vinegar
  • 1 ¾ cups water
  • 30 drops essential oils (try ½ and ½ lavender and lemon, or 10 drops each of peppermint, eucalyptus, and orange)
Method
  1. Add all ingredients to a 16-ounce spray bottle. Shake thoroughly.
  2. Spray on surfaces, let sit for 15 seconds, and wipe with a clean cloth or paper towels.

With new ways to use essential oils, it's time to celebrate Earth Day with some great fragrances. Know someone else who might enjoy these ideas? Share this post and spread the love!
