Fun and Frightful Halloween Movies
With the spooky season in full swing, it's time to stock up on snacks and watch your favorite Halloween movies. But it can be difficult to decide on which ones to watch. There are so many options from old to new that the selection can be overwhelming. That's why we've rounded up eight family-friendly Halloween movies. Pick your favorite, create a personal cinema space, and start watching!

8 Family-Friendly Halloween Movies

1. Hocus Pocus (1993)

Bette Midler stars in this fan favorite Halloween movie. Hocus Pocus didn't become popular immediately but garnered a loyal following as the children who watched the film grew up. Today, it's one of the most beloved Halloween films for families!

2. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

There must have been something in the air in 1993. Not only did we receive Hocus Pocus, but writer Tim Burton also released The Nightmare Before Christmas. While the debate will forever rage over which holiday this film celebrates, there's questioning its fame as a Halloween movie.

3. Ghostbusters (1984)

Whisk yourself back to the ‘80s with a showing of Ghostbusters. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Sigourney Weaver all star in this classic sci-fi comedy. Ghostbusters was already iconic, but it's experienced a resurgence with the popularity of Stranger Things. While trick-or-treating may not be happening as usual this year, there's no reason not to bust out your Ghostbusters costume while watching.

4. Hotel Transylvania (2012)

The most modern movie on this list, Hotel Transylvania is a great way to get young kids familiar with classic monsters. In this film, Dracula operates a resort for monsters, but becomes an overprotective parent when a human stumbles upon the hotel and falls for Dracula's daughter. Both heartwarming and hilarious, Hotel Transylvania joins the ranks of great Halloween movies.

5. Halloweentown (1998)

Whether or not Halloweentown is high quality is up for debate. But what's certain is its notoriety as a feel-good Halloween movie. There's just the right amount of kitsch and cheesiness in Halloweentown. This is exactly the film to watch when you want a flashback to the Disney Channel movies of your youth.

6. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)

With all its fame, it's easy to forget that E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (and yes, that's the official name) is one of the most famous Halloween movies. Steven Spielberg's 1982 classic defined the sci-fi genre for a generation of children. While the actors have grown up, there's no stopping the 80's nostalgia that E.T. kindles for many people.

7. Coraline (2009)

Coraline is a curious movie, and one that's difficult to define as strictly related to Halloween. But for creative adults and children alike, Coraline defined a new kind of horror film that emphasized art rather than jump scares. If you haven't given it a watch, you must check out Coraline this spooky season.

8. The Addams Family (1991)

Finishing our list of Halloween movies is The Addams Family, particularly the 1991 live-action film. While the characters have been featured in a range of TV shows and movies, this film is the most famous. And for good reason! It's full of laughs, kitsch, and distinct styles that have turned it into a Halloween classic.

Perhaps seeing these Halloween movies brings back fond memories for you. Be sure to grab a snack, cuddle up, and tune in, whether you're watching at home or while camping at one of our resorts. And if you love the memories these movies spark, share this post with your friends so they too can enjoy the nostalgia. Happy Halloween!
