The region of Niagara is famous for its waterfalls, but its award-winning wineries have also been gaining international recognition. The outstanding variety of local wines paired with the delicious cuisine makes "wine county" in Niagara a must-see destination for many visitors.

With more than 50 wineries in the Niagara region, selecting the best ones to visit can prove to be a challenge. To help you find your way we've put together a list of our favorite wineries to explore during your stay. Choose a self-guided tour, as well as group tours by bike, car, trolley, or scooter, and remember to always drink responsibly.

1. Peller Estates Winery

Peller Estates has grown vastly from its humble beginnings more than 50 years ago on the West Coast. At its location in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Peller Estates offers daily wine tours and tastings along with events all summer long.

2. Trius Winery & Restaurant

Trius Winery has been crafting VQA-certified wines for more than 30 years and continues to be a must-visit winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake. The winery and restaurant are open every day throughout the year. Additionally, tours and events are offered, including a class on the art of blending your own Trius Red.

3. Two Sisters Vineyards

Two Sisters Vineyards offers guests exciting winery tours and tastings throughout the year. Guests can also enjoy food from Kitchen 76 at this winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

4. Wayne Gretzky Estates

In 2015, Wayne Gretzky Estates Winery & Distillery celebrated its opening with the help of none other than ‘The Great One,' Wayne Gretzky himself. From local Ontario wine to well-aged whisky, this winery and distillery offers plenty. It's also a great spot to enjoy outdoor patios, tours and tastings, and many events, including ice skating in the winter!

5. Pillitteri Estates Winery

Family-owned and operated, Pillitteri Estates opened its doors in Niagara-on-the-Lake in 1993. This local haunt is known around the world for its delicious, sweet icewines.

6. Ravine Vineyard Estate Winery

With a strong history dating back over 150 years, Ravine Vineyard Estate offers guests an experience of tours, tastings, and rich heritage. This fifth-generation family farm is also home to the organic vineyards used for their delicious wine and is located in the quaint town of St. Davids.

7. Konzelmann Estate Winery

The Konzelmann Estate Winery has a history dating back to 1893 with a great location in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Konzelmann Estate Winery's history dates back to 1893. In fact, Konzelmann is Niagara's only lakefront winery, offering visitors stunning views of Lake Ontario and luscious vineyards. Don't forget to sample their famous peach wine before heading out!

8. Southbrook Vineyards

Southbrook Vineyards, in the heart of Niagara-on-the-Lake, is committed to producing great wines in an environmentally conscious way. Not only is the entire 150-acre property certified organic, but its hospitality pavilion is also LEED certified by the Canada Green Building Council.

9. Thirty Bench Winemakers

Thirty Bench Winemakers was one of Niagara's first boutique wineries and produces only small-lot wines. The winery's approach has also received critical acclaim, including recent awards for both Small Winery of the Year and Winemaker of the Year.

10. Lakeview Wine Co.

Since 1991, Lakeview Wine Co. has been a fixture in the Niagara wine industry landscape. And with the addition of a new retail space in 2017, Lakeview made a name as a must-visit winery. Furthermore, its one-of-a-kind approach produces a wide range of wines crafted to suit every palate, including delicious redswhitesroséssparkling winesicewines, and even kosher wines.  

If you're in town during September, make sure you check out the world-renowned Niagara Grape and Wine Festival. The hub of this annual festival can be found in historic Montebello Park in downtown St. Catharines, Ontario.
