Best Time of Year to Visit Texas

Texas road sign
Texas is known for steamy summers, but the spring and winter months are wonderfully mild. As a camper, you can take full advantage of all the fun during the shoulder seasons. We've come up with six things to do during winter and spring in Texas. Check them out and find an activity for yourself!

Spring in Texas: 6 Activities to Try

1. Golfing

Texas may be known for doing things big, but its rise to golf excellence has been under the radar. The Lone Star State has quietly become a great golf destination. Across the state, you can find great golf courses like: Rainbow Trout

2. Rainbow Trout Fishing

Plenty come to Texas for fishing. But few know that you can find great fish year-round... if you know where to look.

Even during winter and spring in Texas, the Guadalupe River offers rainbow trout fishing. You can find spots throughout Hill Country, but the best is Canyon Tailrace. This stretch of river is found below Canyon Lake, near New Braunfels, and offers great rainbow and brown trout fishing.

3. BBQ Road Trips

Before the summer heat sets in, you should grab some BBQ. Spring in Texas is a great time to seek out the best BBQ joints. Lucky for you, we've already rounded up the best BBQ in Texas. Find a few that look interesting and plan a BBQ road trip!

Cascade Caverns

4. Cascade Caverns

Nestled in Texas Hill Country north of San Antonio, Cascade Caverns is a natural wonder. The massive cave system is cool year-round with a natural temperature of 64 degrees F. Several types of tours are available, so you can find one to suit your interest.

Call ahead before visiting, as the caves occasionally close for flooding.

5. Antique Hunting

Texas is a renowned destination for antique hunters. The state's quaint downtowns are littered with antique shops and flea markets. Places like Gruene, Kerrville, and Fredericksburg are good places to start.

If you're serious about antiquing, you might consider the big shows. Round Top is the town for this. While it's a drive, Round Top has three major shows each year during spring, fall, and winter. You'll find the best goods here.

6. Six Flags Fiesta Texas

Opening in April at the beginning of spring in Texas, Six Flags Fiesta Texas is a great family adventure. The park is known for its thrills like BATMAN: The Ride and Goliath. But there are also family rides, activity booths, and water slides. It's perfect for a day of family fun.

We hope you've found an activity to try this spring in Texas. Many of these can also be done in late winter. If you find these ideas fun, share this post and invite a friend for a Texas road trip!
