5 of the Best Things to Do in Colorado

Colorado is a paradise that makes it at the top of the list for anyone who loves the outdoors. It's also a great place to visit if you're looking for a getaway that's unique and filled with adventure.

With so many great spots to choose from, it can be difficult to decide which ones to include in your trip. To make planning even easier, we've rounded up a list of the five best things to do in Colorado. Read on and book your trip today.

Arapahoe Basin

Of all the great ski and snowboard spots in Colorado, Arapahoe Basin is truly special. This unique stretch of mountain is nestled in Dillon, just over an hour west of Denver. It has a mix of challenging terrain, incredible snow, and some of the longest seasons in the United States with snow typically sticking around until June.

If you're a skier or snowboarder, A-Basin offers the chance to explore the best Colorado terrain in your own way. It's by far one of the best things to do in the Centennial State.

Red Rocks Amphitheater

Of all the amphitheaters in America, Red Rocks is one of the most breathtaking. This storied venue near Denver is one of Colorado's top attractions, offering artists and guests a one-of-a-kind setting to share a night under the stars.

The architects who built Red Rocks sought to keep much of the landscape intact to preserve its beauty and found that the natural rock formations surrounding the seating area and stage have incredible acoustic properties. If you time it right, you could catch your favorite artist or act on stage.

Mesa Verde

Mesa Verde is another Colorado destination you have to see to believe, with a unique location less than two hours from the Four Corners Monument.

This area is particularly well-known for its ancient Puebloan cliff dwellings. These structures were carved and constructed out of sandstone back as early as 450 CE and remain largely intact. You can even visit them on a guided tour and climb the same type of retractable ladders to enter the structures.

Mesa Verde National Park also offers a number of self-guided hiking trails where you can take in all of Colorado's beauty. Make sure Mesa Verde is at the top of your list of what to see in Colorado.

Strawberry Parks Hot Springs

If you're looking for a little R&R during your Colorado getaway, Strawberry Parks Hot Springs is the place to be. These natural pools attract visitors from around the globe who want to unwind in the warm waters. If you're bringing the family, Strawberry Parks Hot Springs is family-friendly by day, but switches to adults only at night. You can access the springs through a trailhead with convenient parking offsite.

Mount Evans Scenic Byway

Around 60 miles west of Denver you can find Mount Evans Scenic Byway, the highest paved road in North America. This stretch of asphalt will take you through many of Colorado's peaks including Mount Evans, which is more than 14,000 feet high. Along the way, you'll find scenic stops where you can stretch your legs and take in the magic of the mountains.

Where to stay in Colorado

When you need to take a break from your Colorado adventure, there are two resorts with Sun Outdoors waiting for you and the entire family. When you stay at Jellystone Park™ at Larkspur, you'll find two large swimming pools, a water park, miniature golf, and even gem mining. It's a fantastic family stay.

If you're looking for a luxury camping and RV destination, Sun Outdoors Rocky Mountains is a great choice in the heart of the Rockies. It's packed with a pool and spa, bowling alley, and music venue. You can even take a shuttle to nearby ski and snowboard resorts like Arapahoe Basin.
