4-Course Halloween Menu
Snack: Halloween Buddies
First up is the pre-meal snack. Set out bowls of Halloween buddies for guests or family members to enjoy. This mix is a riff on Chex mix, or perhaps a spooky version of puppy chow. Whatever you call it, it's a great snack!
Recipe borrowed from Betty Crocker.
Ingredients
- 4 ½ cups Corn Chex cereal
- ½ cup (three ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
- ¼ cup peanut butter
- 2 tablespoons butter
- ½ teaspoon vanilla
- ¾ cup powdered sugar
- 1 cup candy corn
- 1 cup salted, shelled peanuts
Method - Measure cereal in a large bowl and set aside.
- In a 1-quart microwavable bowl, microwave the chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter uncovered for 30 seconds. Stir and microwave for 15 seconds longer, or until the mixture can be stirred smooth. Stir in vanilla.
- Pour the chocolate mixture over the cereal, stirring until evenly coated. Pour into 1-gallon plastic bag.
- Add the powdered sugar to the bag. Seal and shake until well coated. Add candy corn and peanuts and shake to mix. Spread on wax paper to cool.
- Store mixture in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Appetizer: Witch Finger Breadsticks
Next up on the Halloween menu is the appetizer, and this one is scary. Using store-bought ingredients, you can quickly whip up witch finger breadsticks. With a twisted "knuckle" in the middle and an unsightly olive "fingernail," these tasty treats look thoroughly creepy!
Recipe borrowed from Food Network.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper
- Flour, for dusting
- 1 pound refrigerated pizza dough, room temperature
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- 5 pimento-stuffed black olives, green olives, or kalamata olives, halved lengthwise
- ½ cup store-bought marinara sauce, for serving
Method - Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Whisk the oil, Italian seasoning, ½ teaspoon salt, and black pepper in a small bowl.
- Lightly flour a work surface and divide the dough into 10 equal portions with a bench scraper or chef's knife. Roll each portion into a smooth 10-inch rope. Twist each rope in the middle and arrange on the baking sheets.
- Brush the breadsticks with the seasoned oil and sprinkle with the sesame seeds. Firmly press an olive half on the end of each breadstick to stick to the dough. Bake until golden brown, about 15-20 minutes. Serve with warm marinara sauce.
Main Course: Hot Dog Mummies
Time for the main course! The entrée for this Halloween menu is an easy spread of hot dog mummies. This is just a spooky variation of pigs in a blanket, making it a flash to whip up. That way, you can move quickly from the appetizer to the main course!
Ingredients
- 8 hot dogs
- 8 ounces refrigerated crescent roll dough
- Mustard or ketchup, for serving
Method - Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Place hot dogs in a saucepan and cover with water. Bring to a gentle boil, reduce heat to medium-low and warm the hot dogs for about five minutes. Drain thoroughly.
- Roll crescent roll dough onto a work surface and divide into eight equal pieces. Roll one piece of dough in thin strips around each hot dog, creating a mummy look. If desired, add two dots of mustard for the eyes.
- Arrange hot dogs on baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes, or until crescent roll dough is golden brown and cooked through.
Dessert: Ghost Cookies
Finishing up our Halloween menu are ghost cookies. But these aren't sugar cookies shaped like ghosts. Instead, they're an easy no-bake treat made with Nutter Butter cookies and vanilla candy coating, or almond bark. They are tasty, delicious, and easy as can be.
Recipe borrowed from Pillsbury.
Ingredients
- 12 ounces vanilla candy coating or almond bark, cut into pieces
- 1 pound Nutter Butter sandwich cookies
- 4 teaspoons miniature chocolate chips
Method - In a small saucepan, melt candy coating over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth.
- Line cookie sheets with waxed paper.
- Holding a cookie with tongs, dip entire top and sides of each cookie into melted candy coating. Let the excess coating drip off and then lay cookie flat, coated side up, on lined cookie sheets. Place two mini chocolate chips in coating for eyes. Let cool for 10 minutes until coating is set.
From snacks to sweet desserts, your Halloween menu is complete with these four courses. And they're easy too! Don't forget to share this post with your friends so they can enjoy a stress-free Halloween menu as well.
