    About this event

🦁 Delicate Balance of Nature: The Lionfish Invasion

Dive into the fascinating (and often prickly) world of one of the ocean's most notorious invaders. As part of the ongoing Delicate Balance of Nature lecture series, the Friends of John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park are hosting an evening with local expert Mead Krowka to discuss the impact of Lionfish on our reefs.

    🗓️ Event Details

    When: Monday, April 27, 2026

    Time: 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM

    Where: Pennekamp Park Visitor Center

    Admission: FREE

    ✨ What You’ll Learn

The Lionfish is beautiful to look at but poses a significant threat to the Florida Keys' marine biodiversity. This session will cover:

The Invasion: How these non-native fish arrived and why they are so successful in our waters.

Ecological Impact: The "delicate balance" being disrupted by their presence on the reef.

Action & Solutions: What is being done to manage the population and how the community can help.

    📍 Location

John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park 102601 Overseas Hwy Key Largo, FL 33037

Note: These lectures are a fantastic way to connect with local conservation efforts and fellow ocean lovers. Arrive a few minutes early to secure a seat in the Visitor Center!

Come learn how we can protect our coral reefs—one fish at a time.
