Many people have taken notice how blue and clear the Atlantic Ocean appears in the Myrtle Beach area. Some say it’s the bluest they’ve ever seen! According to meteorologist Sean Bailey, a combination of higher salt levels and lower levels of algae and sediment are making the water appear more tropical-like. According to information put out from Coastal Carolina University, these levels are a result of wind that has been bringing marine waters closer to the Grand Strand’s shoreline.
- The Myrtle Beach area is famous for its 1.2-mile-long Oceanfront Boardwalk and Promenade which traverses through the sand from the 14th Avenue to 2nd Avenue Piers in Myrtle Beach. Another great option is Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach, which is a retail & entertainment village around Louis Lake, next to the Intracoastal Waterway, with restaurants, a brewery, a theater, and even a carousel.

- Each beach area has their advantages, but in general the southern end of Myrtle Beach is a fun and active atmosphere whereas North Myrtle Beach has laid-back beaches which offer a retreat from the crowds, without sacrificing things to do. A public beach area in North Myrtle Beach is accessible via free courtesy shuttle from the resort. The beach area has restrooms and is nearby to shopping and food options.
- The main difference between the two Tanger Outlets is the store selection and proximity. The outlet mall on Highway 17 has nearly 100 storefronts and is located 12 minutes away from the resort, while the one on Highway 501 offers about 80 stores and is 20-25 min away.
- The name “Myrtle Beach” derives from the wax myrtle, an abundant local shrub, and was originally chosen in a name-the-town-contest in 1900.
