7 Best Golf Courses in Cape May

With an outstanding location on the Jersey Shore, Cape May is known for its miles of beaches, scenic views, and history as one of America's first seaside towns. But did you know this stretch of coastline is also a golfer's paradise?

Since there are countless golf courses and driving ranges up and down the peninsula to choose from, it can be hard to know where to start. Luckily, we've rounded up the top seven golf courses in Cape May so you can spend less time searching and more time on the links.

Your Guide to Cape May Golfing

Have your pick of some of New Jersey's finest golf courses and enjoy a great home base at Sun Outdoors Cape May. This amazing outdoor destination is less than 30 minutes from most of the options featured in our list below.

Ocean City

While it may not be a head turner, Ocean City Golf Course offers affordable fun, which is all you could really ask for as a golfer on vacation. This popular Cape May course is a great place for beginners to learn, and more experienced players can fit in a casual round of practice.

You'll find that most holes are at 150 yards or less and fairly straight. Players are encouraged to make reservations in advance.

The Pines

Just minutes away is The Pines, another 9-hole golf course that provides a challenge while staying fun and relaxing. It has four par-4 and five par-3 holes, which takes most players around two hours to finish the course. This will give you even more time to explore everything Cape May has to offer.

Union League National Golf Club

Union League National Golf Club

Still a work in progress, the Union League National Golf Club is still incredibly playable, extending a challenge to novices and experts alike. This 18-hole course is actually one of five properties owned by the Union League National Golf Club. It includes a practice range, an 18,000 square foot clubhouse, and state-of-the-art golf carts that are available to rent. It's a must-visit for anyone interested in golfing along the Jersey Shore.

Heritage Links

Known as a golfing staple in Cape May, Heritage Links Golf Club is essentially a loop with multiple water hazards peppered throughout. This 9-hole course is challenging and fun, not to mention affordable at $25 if you're walking, or $35 with a golf cart. Seniors can save $5 every day and replay the course for only $10.

Avalon Golf Club

Avalon Golf Club

If you're looking for a championship golf course, Avalon Golf Club is open to the public year-round. It's 18 holes are a mix of narrow fairways, water features, and plenty of wind from the breezy New Jersey coastline. You can play this course for $95, which is a bit more expensive than the other options on this list, but you'll also be golfing on one of the best courses in Cape May.

The Shore Club

When you visit the Cape May area, you're walking on historic ground. The same is true for the 18-hole course at The Shore Club, which originally opened in 1918 as a homemade 9-hole course. Today, the course attracts golfers of all skill levels, and each hole has five teeing areas to accommodate all players. You can also get some practice in at the 300-yard driving range.

Cape May National Golf Club

Some consider Cape May National Golf Club the best course in the state thanks to its unique setup. It's a combination of a world-class golf course and wildlife preserve. Referred to as "The Natural," the grounds surround a 50-acre private bird sanctuary and is home to a variety of New Jersey wildlife. In a world of golf courses built next to subdivisions, it's a welcome retreat for many golfers.
